Destitute Freedmen in So. Carolina and Georgia

DESTITUTE FREEDMEN.    General Saxton has issued a circular:

“Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,

Charleston, S. C., November 9, 1865  “The freedmen in the States of South Carolina and Georgia are, in most cases in a destitute condition in regards to clothing and blankets to  protect  during the ensuing  winter,  and donations are urged to aid these poor people…… All articles of clothing would be a charity well bestowed.    By order of Bvt. Maj.Gen. R. Saxton, Asst. Commissioner. H. W. Smith,  Asst. Adj. General.
