Call for Money to Support Regiment

A committee appointed by the Governor to assist in recruiting,…. “desire to state to the public that they are greatly in need of funds to facilitate the object of their appointment . Owing to the sparseness of the colored population in Massachusetts, men were sought at distant points, whose transportation and subsistence are defrayed by the Committee.  Not unfrequently recruits are rejected by the surgeon, and the expense of their return home is likewise borne by the Committee. ….
