Colored People of Boston supporting Garrison

This notice tells of a “very large body of colored citizens” who met, March 19th, in the Infant School Room, Belknap Street.  Strong resolutions were passed in support of Garrison and the Liberator.  When opportunity was given for people to present their objections, “none were offered”.    Discussants from the black community included George Washington, John Levy, Joshua B. Smith, J.H. Glover, John T. Hilton and James G. Barbadoes.  (Liberator, April 3, 1840)
