Commenting on the Sarah Roberts Case Judicial Decision

April 26, 1850, in the Liberator.  The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decided that Sarah had not been “lawfully excluded from public school instruction”.  The editor comments:  “This decision of the Court fills us with astonishment, for we regard it as unwarranted by the spirit of our laws, and especially of the Constitution of Massachusetts.  The people (who are greater than the Court) will, we are confident, remedy this injustice through the Legislature at its next session.  The subject shall be agitated throughout the State.”
