Election of Sumner to U.S. Senate

On Thursday of last week,  Charles Sumner was elected U. S. Senator,  having received the precise number of votes necessary.  In Boston, (says the Traveller) as soon as the vote was announced at the State House, of Mrs. Sumners’ election,  messengers were running in every direction, bearing the exciting news…..100 guns were fired in Lowell on receipt of the news.    The same number were fired at Burlngton, Vermont.
