Frederick Douglass, imitating Southern preaching to slaves

Speaker at an evening gathering included Charles Lenox Remond,  Wendell Phillips, Frederick Douglass, Abby Kelley, and William Lloyd Garrison.  Reported in the Liberator, February 8, 1842, here is what the editor says of Douglass:   that he made “the best speech of the evening everything considered……he showed  great imitative powers, and gave an amusing exhibition of the sourthern style of preaching to slaves and the corresponding practice, which seemed to interest the meeting greatly.  His native talents are evidently of a high order.””
