Opposition to Henry Clay

July 29, 1842

From the Liberty Standard, here is a statement against Clay’s candidacy for President,  recently endorsed by the Whig Convention of Maine. Signed by A. Willey, it gives seven reasons for opposition to Clay:  He is  1. A slaveholder, 2. A Murderer, 3. A Robber, 4.  An Enemy to Human Rights  5. A Despot,  6. A Devoted Supporter of Slavery, and 7. President of the Colonization Society.
