Petition for Disunion

June 6, 1856

This article, titled, Freedom Demands Separation, recounts a series of events in Kansas, and includes with the caning of Sumner, and includes a petition, which it urges people to obtain at the Liberator office, and then to circulate widely.  The petition calls for Congress to “take such initiatory measures for the speedy, peaceful, and equitable dissolution of the existing Union as the exigencies of the case require  — leaving the South to depend upon her own resources,    and the North to organize an independent government in accordance with her own ideas of justice and the rights of man ..”
