Southern Ignorance of Slavery

Southern Ignorance of Slavery .–  We had occasion, a few days since, in a speech, to quote the Alabaman Law, which gives the citizens of that State liberty to seize and make a slave for life, any free person of color who comes into the State.  An Alabamian who was present, denied that any such law was in existence.  We had a copy at  hand, and read it to the southron.  He was confounded, and acknowledged that he was entirely ignorant of any such provision before.  Yet it is on the testimony of such men, that our northern pro-slavery community makes up its verdict in favor of slavery, and against the abolitionists.  Is it not a fine way to get at the truth?  Abolition Standard.
