Colored Military Men in Philadelphia

Colored Military Men and Colored Music  — While Massachusetts is endeavoring to foster and encourage dark colored men for Volunteer Militia, the free city of Philadelphia is determined to put don colored bands of music.  At the Firemen’s Convention which had assembled a few days since, for the purpose of getting up an escort to the Empire Fire Company of Lynn, it was voted to exclude all colored bands from appearing in the line of procession for any Fire Company.   In the city of ‘Brotherly Love’, no colored persons are allowed to ride in the public omnibuses , hacks, or horse railway cars.  No colored person is allowed at the meetings of the City Councils, or in the schools of the city.
