Garrison to Lord Broughman, exposes colonization “scheme”

Writing to Lord Broughman, Aug 1, 1832, Garrison characterizes the colonization idea …. “a scheme which, for folly, imbecility, violence and presumption, exceeds the wildest ere attempted by men of sane minds in any age … tends to increase the value of slaves, to degrade and persecute the free people of colour, to quiet the consciences of slave-holders and to perpetuate the system of slavery…”  (British Anti-Slavery , 1833-1870, Howard Temperley, pg 21)
