The Taney Hunt Against Colored Americans

August 28, 1857

This article is by William Cooper Nell, claims that one response to the Taney decision has been:

“Priests, warriors and statesmen, from Georgia to Maine
Are mounting the saddle and grasping the reins;
Right merrily hunting the black man, whose sin
Is the curl of his hair and the hue of his skin.”

Cooper then tells of instances of severe actions against colored citizens, in Rhode Island, Maine, New York, Ohio, Illinois, and other states.
