It is gravely asserted by some person who professes to know, that there is a combined movement on foot in the South to change the public opinion in California to such an extent as to procure the election of a Legislature favorable to altering the Constitution of that State, so as to make it lawful to hold and possess slaves. It is said that money will be provided and agents sent out to bring such a result.
