Daniel Webster and Whigs of the North

June 26, 1840  The Liberator, under the heading above, includes excerpts of a speech by Webster, on June 11, in Alexandria,  District of Columbia.  The article claims that Webster has “shamelessly avowed his own subserviency, and that of his party of the North, to the SLAVE  POWER,   which now rules the government of this nation with a rod of iron.”
