Death of James Forten

A Great Man Fallen!  “The afflicting intelligence contained in the following letter, reaches us at a moment when neither time nor room allows us to express the emotions that throng within our breast; but the letter itself contains a noble eulogy upon the character of the deceased, to every word of which we heartily subscribe  … James Forten was a prodigy … one of the noblest men that ever trod upon the earth.  We deeply sympathize with his afflicted family.    …. The letter is from H. C. Wright, from Philadelphia,  and is followed by a notice from the Philadelphia Public Ledger. (Liberator, March 11, 1842, pg 3)
