Praise for Garrison, from John S. Rock

At the 19th anniversary of the Boston Massacre, recorded in the Liberator, March 16, 1860, John S. Rock,  the teacher, dentist, doctor, lawyer, leading member of Boston’s black community, was a speaker.  During his speech he says this:  ” I believe in insurrections  (much applause)– and especially those of the pen and of the sword.   William LLoyd Garrison is, I think, a perfect embodiment of the moral insurrection of thought, which is continually reaching the people of this country, that unjust laws and compacts made by fathers are not binding upon their sons, and that the ‘higher law’ of God, which we are bound to execute, teaches us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us…..”
