PRUDENCE OF THE NEGRO

PRUDENCE OF THE NEGRO.   A  bundle of bank deposit books of the savings of Co. H, 35th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops, Lieut. H. W. Batcheller commanding, now stationed at Jacksonville, Florida, has been exhibited to us.  The deposits were made in one of the savings banks of this city.  We can but consider this as curious development of the times, and a striking evidence of the advance from slavery and ignorance to knowledge and civilization of the blacks of the South. The amount deposited is about $2000.   —- Boston Journal.
