Benjamin Bannekar remembered

BENJAMIN  BANNEKAR   The one hundred and twenty-sixth birthday of Benjamin Bannekar was celebrated in Philadelphia on the 10th ult.  Benjamin Bannekar, a slave in Maryland, was possessed of more than ordinary abilities.  He calculated an Almanac, which attracted a good deal of attention, and led to a correspondence between him and Thomas Jefferson when Secretary of State.   Bannekar was invited to consult with the Committee on laying out the plan for the city of Washington.
