Benjamin Lundy, ill and poor

“The Western Methodist, of the 8th, published at Nashville, Tennessee, gives information of the arrival of friends of Lundy at that city, from his perilous tour of Texas, ‘sick, exhausted, and destitute of money’.  It was , says that paper, ‘with the most heartfelt pleasure we gave him the first information that he received of Mr. Turpin’s bequest to him of $1500.  He is with kind friends, and under the scientific and skillful attendance of Dr. Jennings, one our ablest physicians.”  (Liberator, May 23, 1835, pg 3)
