British Parliament ..”a new year at hand”

The December, 1833 Liberator, projects hope.  “A new year is at hand — the present has been crowded with great and solemn events.  In England and in this country, it has witnessed many auspicious movements for the deliverance of three million of our fellow beings from a bloody despotism, and furnished imperishable matter for the pages of history.  The passage of the bill through Parliament for the abolition of slavery in the Colonies, and the formation of the AASS, are light which shall transmit ‘through the dark depths of time its vivid flame’.  Let us hope that the ensuing year may bring forth even better things. “
