Burning Papers in Virginia

The article indicates that recently a paper of the United Brethren in Christ, the Religious Telescope, has been “submitted to the flames at Grenville, Va., by the Postmaster at that place, because of its anti-slavery sentiments.”   Accompanying this article is a letter from W. E. Herendon, the Post Master.  He says that under the laws of the state, he cannot circulate “violent abolition articles” which directly violate the laws of Virginia.
