“The Secretary of War has concluded a treaty with the Sioux delegation, at Washington, for the sale of the their lands east of the Mississippi. The following extract from the Baltimore Transcript, give an idea of the ceremony ….They all said they agreed to the treat, but it saddened them to part with the land where their fathers hunted ;…. it is said this land for which Uncle Same gives $1,000,000 is worth twelve times that sum at least!….” (Liberator October 13, 1837, pg 4)
