Dreadful Famine in India

The overland despatch from India, has arrived from London.  The accounts of the progress of the famine in the western provinces of India are most horrible.  The inhabitants of the Agra are compelled to forego their evening drives on account of the intolerable ciluvia arising from the dead surrounding the station.  A relief fund has been opened in Calcutta, and on the 15th of March subscriptions amounted to above 40,000 rupees… (Liberator, July 6, 1838, pg 4)
