Haytien Rebellion Quelled

The recent attempt to overthrow the existing government had signally failed.

The rebels had been beaten near Gonnives, when they surrendered to the

national forces, and dispersed after laying down their arms. The leaders had

fled the country, in a vessel which they had kept in readiness for the purpose

at Cape Haytien., with the intention of proceeding to Nassau, N. P., for refuge,

and they had reached Inagus on the 5th inst., on their way to that place.

President Jeffrard had offered pardon to all the insurgents except the leaders,

and as the latter had run away, it was thought their would be no further trouble.
