Methodist Bishop suspended for slaveholding

“The Journal of Commerce of Saturday contains the Protest of the southern portion of this body against the decision of the Conference in suspending Bishop Andrew, for being a slaveholder, together with the Reply  …..The Protest is written in the usual style of southern bravado… expediency still seems to be all in all with them; union is still their idol  — to this they are ever ready to sacrifice the bleeding victims of slavery…..”
