Petitions Against Slave-Hunting in Massachusetts

Here is a list, by town, of the number of petitions which have been forwarded to the Legislature of Massachusetts.  The article claims close to fifteen thousand petitions have been filed.  The article indicates that there is little hope for passage of the requested legislation, since a motion in the House, supported by the Senate, records that “the petitioners have leave to withdraw”!!
