Prejudice Against Color – Pennsylvania Episcopal Diocese

A brief article records an attempt in the Diocese to repeal a rule which “excludes colored clergymen from seats in the Convention, and prevents such parishes from sending delegations”.    “After some debate the question was taken…..the motion was lost…..black men if they go into the meetings of the Convention at all, must ‘stand here or sit there’ for a while longer.”
