Appearing under Refuge of Oppression is a series of items from The Journal of Commerce. It is apparently a kind of “double-sarcasm”, in which the items come from a “Boboliton Petticoat Convention”, but the items seem to make fun of those who make fun of Garrison’s position regarding churches. It also spoofs those who “spoof” the rights of women for taking public roles. It includes the items from the “Abolition Petticoat Convention”, and indicates that these were moved by Garrison. Among them is a motion by Garrison which asserts that a church which does not take Abolition positions should not be regarded as a Church of Christ.
