Episcopal Church

June 28, 1850

An article about recent action at the Episcopal Convention, where there was a decision made “upon the question of admitting representatives from the African Church of St. Thomas.”   There was a resolution that they “should be entitled to all the privileges of the Diocese”, it was strongly contested.  “… it was resolved that the delegates from St. Thomas’s Church should not be admitted to seats in the Convention!!”

Comment by the Editor:  “The conscience of the Episcopal Church of this country, so far as the colored population are concerned, whether bond or free, is harder than adamant.”
