Anti-Slavery in Townsend

Townsend Anti-Slavery Society   Some of the friends of the slave met on the 18th of January last, at the vestry of the Brick Church, for the purpose of organizing themselves into an Anti-Slavery Society.

The following officers were then chosen for the ensuing year.

Dea. Joel Adams,   President;      John Clement, Vice President;

Dea. Joshua Smith, Secretary;  Noah Ball, Treasurer .

 Standing Committee:  Rev. David Stowell,  Rev. Orin  Tracy,  Rev. John Emery, Rev. Ezra Blood, Jr., Dea. Levi Ball.

The Society consisted of one hundred and forty five members; sixty-nine males, and seventy-six female.
