From the Atlantic Monthly for May, is an item about a “sketch from South Carolina, by a young lady of African blood, well known to many of our readers. There can be no mistake in attributing it to Miss Charlotte Forten, a graduate of the state normal school in Salem.” The title of the “sketch” is Life in the Sea Islands, and the article has an introduction by J. G. Whittier.
