Death of Chief Justice Taney The intelligence of the decease of the historically infamous author of the Dred Scott Decision, which took place at Washington on the 12th inst., after a short illness, is received by the entire loyal, liberty-loving portion of the country with perfect resignation. It was a mockery of all law, and a disgrace to the nation to have such a man at the head of the Supreme Court. His successor will, in all probability, be Ex Secretary Salmon P. Chase of Ohio; such is the general wish.
