Hope from Delaware — decrease in slave numbers

Decrease of Slavery in Delaware. —  The report of the Delaware Anti-Slavery Society shows that in 1790, when the first census was taken, the number of slaves in the State was about 9000 – a sixth part of the people.  Now there are but a little over 2000, not one fourth of the people.  The number of slaves decreases faster in Newcastle county than any other.  In the last ten years, the decrease in that county has been 25 per cent.
