Political – The Cincinnati Gazette has a despatch from St. Louis of the following tenor” …’An important document has been prepared for the press, and published here to-day, presenting an authoritative exposition of the views of Hon. Edward Bates on the slavery question. It is of a radical Republican character. He believes that slavery is not beneficial, either in a political, social or religious sense, and he is unalterably opposed to its extension into free territory. He favors colonization of the free blacks. It is a powerful article, and will produce a sensation.’
