Progress of the Treason The latest intelligence from South Carolina is, that she is determined to fight the General Government, and is therefore erecting batteries by the aid of her slaves, (!) and obstructing the channels to Fort Sumter. She threatens to sink the Government steamer, Harriet Lane, if she attempts to enter the harbor of Charleston; and will attempt to starve out and capture the small body of U. S. troops at Fort Sumter. Major Anderson has telegraphed that he does not ask for any reinforcement, but is ready to “laugh a siege to scorn”. Senator Wade has been threatened with assassination at Washington by a Mississippian, for his speech against the treasonable course of South Carolina.
