William Wilberforce, on Colonization

“I have seen Mr. Wilberforce.  He has repudiated his view of the Colonization Society, and regards its principles and purposes with disapprobation.  This fact you may publish to the country.”  Written from London, to the Board of Managers of the New England Anti-Slavery Society, in a long letter.  George Thompson and Garrison had visited with William Wilberforce shortly before his death, and gone together to the Wilberforce funeral at Westminster Cathedral.  (Source:  readinggarrisonsletters, June 20, 1833, Liberator, August 31, 1833)
